Mackie: Making Expensive Technology Affordable
When designing new audio components, Greg Mackie often starts with the goal of making expensive technology affordable through good engineering and economies of large-scale production.
For active speaker systems like the SRM-450, he also specified top design criteria that included:
- High precision, high output and accurate playback
- Very wide, smooth dispersion of mid and high frequencies
- Ergonomically correct physical design for easy transport and set-up.
The result is a series of active Mackie speaker systems that have sophisticated internal circuitry, including a phase-accurate electronic crossover. Their power amplifiers are optimized to work perfectly with each transducer and tightly coupled to the transducers via servo feedback circuitry.
